The Endoro waterfalls is located on the southern border of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area facing Karatu town. This waterfall can be accessed through the Endoro entrance gate located at about 6.5 kilometers from Karatu town. The hike to the waterfalls takes between 2 to 3 hours to the top of the falls giving one enough time to explore the beauty of the magnificent, lush forest and the scenic surroundings.
The Endoro waterfall is 40 meters falls that flows throughout the year. The path to the Endoro waterfalls takes one through the forest and the elephant caves giving them amazing views of Karatu town, surrounding plains and several wildlife at the elephant caves.
The hike to the Endoro waterfalls is highly recommended for those interested in bird watching as it brings them across several bird species such as turaco, robin chat, bee-eater, warbler, buzzard, cuckoo, hornbill, flycatcher, guinea fowl, bulbul, among others and some wildlife species such as elephants, buffaloes, and bush pigs.
Elephant Caves
The Elephant cave is a cave that was dug by elephants into the hills over several years. These elephants use their tusks to dig through these rocks for soil rich in minerals that is essential for their body. This soil came into existence because of a mixture of volcanic emissions that got combined with organic soil components and leaves as well as other organic material that were decomposed by soil micro-organisms.
The elephant caves were named so because they were dug by elephants hence the name. Other than elephants, other wildlife such as buffaloes, waterbucks, bushbucks, among others also visit the caves for the minerals in this soil.
